Nearby is the the oldest reef in the world, Chazy Reef, where the dark Chazy limestone of southern Isle La Motte is from --480 million years ago--and it's teaming with fossils. Several island quarries provided this famous decorative black marble used for major projects, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, and several local buildings. Read more about Chazy Reef in this article provided by Wayside Exhibits. Fisk Quarry, also here on Isle La Motte, is an outdoor museum containing world renowned, 480,000,000 year-old fossils. More information on Fisk Quarry and Goodsell Ridge Fossil Preserve here.
