Situated on the shores of Lake Champlain on historic Isle La Motte, this Vermont Bed and Breakfast, the Ruthcliffe Lodge, commands a panoramic view of the Green Mountains of Vermont. If you are traveling to Vermont our secluded island paradise makes the perfect summer getaway or fall side trip. Only one hour from Montreal, Canada and Burlington, Vermont, it is also the ideal stopping place en route to these destinations.

Relax in Adirondack chairs as you take in sweeping views of Lake Champlain and Mt. Mansfield. Canoe on the lake or cycle along our quiet roads. If you've spent the day exploring local attractions, you might prefer to simply curl up with a good book in the common sitting area. No matter what you choose to do, you'll savor a leisurely stay here at cozy Ruthcliffe Lodge. Check out our new packages!

The exciting city of Montreal is but one hour away. Enjoy exciting night life and special events such as the international Jazz Festival, comedy festival, and the Montreal Grand Prix to name a few.

Nearby is the the oldest reef in the world, Chazy Reef, where the dark Chazy limestone of southern Isle La Motte is from --480 million years ago--and it's teaming with fossils. Several island quarries provided this famous decorative black marble used for major projects, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, and several local buildings. Read more about Chazy Reef in this article provided by Wayside Exhibits. Fisk Quarry, also here on Isle La Motte, is an outdoor museum containing world renowned, 480,000,000 year-old fossils. More information on Fisk Quarry and Goodsell Ridge Fossil Preserve here.

Our delicious Italian-American cuisine is prepared by Mark. Enjoy splendid seafood, chicken, beef, veal, or pasta entrees accompanied by Mark's homemade soups, warm bread, seasonal greens, and garden fresh vegetables. You'll dine al fresco or in our cozy, knotty-pine dining room overlooking sparkling Lake Champlain.
